The new Mercedes eSprinter will arrive in 2019
The eSprinter comes to cover a segment of electric commercial vehicles that is practically deserted and in which only appears the Renault Master ZE.
Mercedes-Benz has presented the renewal of the Sprinter van including an electric version, eSprinter, which will arrive in 2019 and intended for urban use. Its operating costs will be on a par with those of the diesel versions.
Mercedes-Benz has presented the new generation of the Sprinter, its high-capacity van that in addition to a new design has some very interesting features. The aesthetic modifications affect the grille and the headlights, now thinner and wider and placed in a higher position. The tail lights are now square and the lateral folds of the body have been removed.
In addition to the combustion versions, curiously with front-wheel drive, which allows a greater payload capacity to dispense with the components of the transmission under the floor, the main novelty is the electric version that accompanies them: the eSprinter on which, unfortunately , Mercedes has not revealed any technical information about its autonomy and its power. The use that the manufacturer announces for this version is mostly urban so we do not expect a great autonomy and power for this electrical version. According to Mercedes regarding the operating costs, the electric vans will be on a par with comparable models powered by a diesel engine. While the combustion versions will reach the end of this year the electric will not do so until 2019.
Interior of the Mercedes eSprinter
Inside there are now more similarities with the rest of the Mercedes models with a central stack in which a central screen in the form of a 10.25-inch tablet can be placed. It will be possible to have Mercedes PRO Connect technology that allows fleet managers to monitor the location of the vans, determine their status and track their maintenance.
The eSprinter comes to cover a segment of electric commercial vehicles that is practically deserted and in which only appears the Renault Master ZE, announced in January last year at the Brussels Motor Show and that will soon be available in the market.
Mercedes-Benz started the electrification of its range of vans with the eVito, of which this year only 400 units will be manufactured in the factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz and that is available for orders from November 2017 and whose deliveries will begin in the second half of 2018.
