The 2019 Acura RDX Concept debuts in Detroit as a preview of the replacement of its compact SUV
The Japanese manufacturer of premium vehicles presented in Detroit a beautiful car concept that is nothing more than a slightly disguised version of the third generation of its successful RDX truck that will debut in North America in the middle of this year.
The news of Acura this year in Detroit was the presentation in conceptual version of the RDX, his most successful truck in the US market. The model was well received by the specialized media which is extremely important for Acura, since the RDX is its crossover with the most sales. The production RDX will be the first of Acura's crossovers to receive the A-Spec level that places a general emphasis on vehicle athletics.
If the proportions of the concept are maintained, the new truck will be 1.2 inches wider and benefit from an extra 2.5 inches of wheelbase. In visual terms the design of its grille adopts the successful V-shaped design that debuted in the 2016 Acura Precision Concept. The concept also employs the latest generation of its Jewel Eye LED headlights from Acura which we hope to see in the car production without major changes.
The RDX will leave behind the V9 engine of 279 hp to give way to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that according to the manufacturer will generate 40% more torque at low rpm than the model it replaces. Acura however did not advance figures of power and torque but if he told us that the only available transmission will be a new automatic transmission with 10 speeds. The new Acura RDX will be built on an exclusive Acura platform that loses weight, but gains stiffness and strength and will be available mid-year in the United States.
There will be versions with front and integral traction with the system Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) with function of vectorization of torque and adaptive suspension, which will work hand in hand with the selector of driving modes: comfort, sport, sport plus and snow.
Finally we have the cabin, which enjoys high quality leather, wood and aluminum interiors. The greater distance between axles obtained with this new platform, apparently will give more space and comfort to its five passengers.
The design also showed the new Acura True Touchpad Interface, an Android-based operating system that is projected on the 10.2-inch touch screen of the center console that will be more intuitive to use and allow the driver to access functions and controls easier. SUV
The Acura RDX that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show is a concept that is strongly planted in reality.
