Mercedes-Benz returns to manufacture the eVito
The 2019 eVito will be available in two lengths: 5,140 and 5,370 millimetres, with a load volume of 6.6 m3 and a capacity of 1,023 kilograms
Mercedes-Benz will once again put on the market in 2018 the eVito, the electric version of its medium-sized combustion van. It will be accompanied one year later by the electric Sprinter, with greater load capacity, which will be followed by electrification of the Citan model.
The new electric version of the Vito, which Mercedes-Benz already had on the market in 2011, comes back with a renewed look. That first electric version incorporated a pack of 36 kWh batteries that are now increased to 41.4 kWh. It is located under the load box so it does not reduce space inside.
According to the manufacturer, the real autonomies that can be achieved with it are 150 km in an intermediate city-highway and up to 100 km in adverse conditions (highway) and maximum load.
It has an electric motor of 84 kW (112 HP) and 300 Nm of torque. Originally Mercedes-Benz delivered the van with the speed limited to 80 km / h since it is designed for delivery of last mile, although the customer could decide to unlock it for their needs up to 120 km / h.
New Mercedes e-Vito
It will be available in two lengths: 5,140 and 5,370 millimetres, with a load volume of 6.6 m3 and a capacity of 1,023 kilograms.
Regarding the price, although the first version of this van was almost impossible to market, due to its economic infeasibility for professionals, taking into account the final cost of the vehicle including its use (TCO), the new version takes advantage of the lower cost of the batteries. In this aspect Mercedes-Benz seems to have made the greatest effort.
In Germany the basic version is offered from € 39,900 before taxes. The price of the thermal model of similar power is quite lower (about € 25,000). But on the initial price it is necessary to discount the aid offered in each market by the central governments and local administrations and count on the fuel savings throughout its useful life. These numbers are the cornerstone for this type of models that must be profitable throughout their useful life, not only in the purchase price.
Electric Sprinter in 2019 and more
The launch of the new eVito is the beginning of the electrification of the range of Mercedes-Benz vans, as expressed by the manager of Mercedes-Benz Vans, Volker Mornhinweg, who has announced electric versions of the Sprinter for 2019, his van of greater load capacity and the Citan, its smaller van.
