The 2018 Kai concept announces the style of the future Mazda 3 and its compression-ignition SkyActiv-X engine
Mazda opens the show at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017 with the Kai concept, a compact five-door hatchback prefiguring the future Mazda 3. The latest creation of the manufacturer takes the Kodo style and curves of the current model by evolving to more Aggressiveness, in particular thanks to the finer front lights, a prominent curved hood, a shorter lateral glazed surface and more inclined rear uprights. There are some features of the 2015 RX-Vision concept.
Mazda announces that the concept car uses the new generation of its SkyActiv architecture. Thanks to this revised platform, the car offers a quieter and more comfortable driving than the current Mazda 3 according to the Hiroshima company, as well as better performances.
A revolutionary engine
The Mazda Kai Concept is powered by the SkyActiv-X gasoline-ignition gasoline engine announced for 2019. Depending on the speed and load, conventional candles are used to assist the process. Thanks to an optimized air / fuel ratio, a 2L SkyActiv-X engine develops 10% to 30% more torque than the current SkyActiv-G 2L petrol engine while consuming 20% less after Mazda .
With the development of this technology, the Japanese manufacturer underlines his belief that the engine still has a bright future ahead, especially in gasoline. In Tokyo, Mazda is also introducing the Vision Coupe concept.
