So far limited to Europe, Tesla Semi Truck bookings are now open in three European countries.
Norway, the Netherlands and England. It is now possible to order the Tesla Semi in three European countries. Presented with great fanfare at an event organized in late November in California, Tesla's first electric truck is expected to be available from the end of 2019 in the United States, which is likely to be in 2020 in Europe.
Promising a payload equivalent to that of a diesel truck, the Tesla Semi will be offered in two battery configurations with a range of 480 or 800 km.
As with the North American model, European customers can choose between two variations. The "Founders-serie" will be one of the first customers to be delivered but requires to pay a first advance of 4000 € followed by 166,000 € more in the next ten days, or 170,000 euros in total. More affordable, the classic version imposes a first payment of 4000 € followed by an additional 11 000 € within ten days to definitively validate the pre-order.
Adaptations for Europe
Far from our European standards, the Tesla Semi will have no choice but to adapt. On this point, the manufacturer acknowledged that development work will have to be done to meet the specific European regulations on trucking.
In terms of design, the Semi could also evolve to be closer to the models we know in Europe.
High potential
While North America will no doubt remain a priority market for the Tesla electric truck, the manufacturer does not want to deprive itself of the potential offered by the old continent.
In Europe, Tesla officials expect the Semi is even more interesting in terms of operating costs given that the price of diesel is much higher than in the United States.
It remains to be seen if the professionals will be seduced by the Californian brand and if they abandon the general manufacturers with whom they have used to work for many years.
