JAGUAR I-PACE CONCEPT: ON THE ROADS IN 2018
Boosted by the good commercial start of its very first SUV (F-Pace), Jaguar already passes the second with the I-Pace concept, a more compact model but announcing the first electric Jaguar in less than two years.
Impossible for Jaguar to be outdistanced by Audi, Mercedes and BMW in the electric market. While the German trio plans to market its zero emission SUVs around 2020, Jaguar announces the final model in 2017 and a launch in 2018.
Prefigured by the I-Pace, this first non-thermal Jaguar would take the features of a crossover shorter and lower than the F-Pace. With its more compact silhouette, the I-Pace would almost think of a raised compact, but especially to a possible bodywork cut F-Pace.
Assembled on a platform of its own, this concept is promising on paper because it does not sacrifice practical aspects on the altar of electrification. Thus it embarks 5 passengers, claims a volume of chest of 530 L and a perfectly flat floor.
Does this mean that I-Pace is just a two-wheel drive? Not at all, one engine takes place at the front and another settles in the back, each driving his axle. The 4 × 4 transmission is thus ensured and the central transmission shaft is removed. The batteries that power the set take place under the floor.
Side figures, the car displays up to 400 hp and 700 Nm of torque for a range of between 350 and 500 km according to the approval cycles.
