New Toyota RAV4: will be presented in New York with two hybrid versions.
The fifth generation of the Toyota RAV4 SUV will be presented next month at the New York Motor Show with two new hybrid versions. The two electrified drive trains of the new Toyota RAV4, shared with the new Toyota Auris that was presented last week in Geneva, combine the units of 1.8 and 2.0 liters to gasoline with separate electric motors to achieve a lower consumption and an optimum level of efficiency .
The smaller engine version offers a power of 121 hp, while the larger engine can develop up to 178 hp. In addition to these two, it is likely to repeat the formula of three versions of the Toyota Auris 2019 and also offer a choice of pure gasoline, although it is still unknown whether it will be based on the existing 2.0-liter engine of the RAV4 or will be a unit smaller, like the latest version of the engine 8NR-FTS 1.2 turbo 114 hp.
Toyota published a first teaser image of the SUV, which hints at its silhouette in front of a beautiful sunset. Although obviously you can not draw great conclusions from the new design of the vehicle, we hope you have more elegant and muscular lines, with a longer elongated hood. The last third of the roof also looks more inclined and ends in a spoiler, which makes it more sporty. The distance to the ground is presumed considerable, reason why the Toyota will not disappoint with its benefits out of the asphalt.
The new RAV4 is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, once again shared with the new Auris, which offers a lower centre of gravity for greater stability. As it is happening in all the European launching of Toyota, there will not be a diesel version for this SUV, due to the decrease in the sales of this type of engines since the Volkswagen scandal. Toyota announced last week at the Geneva Motor Show that it will eliminate diesel engines from all its passenger cars in Europe.
The RAV4 SUV is one of the most popular Toyota models since it came on the market more than 20 years ago. Between 1994 and 2012, more than 4.5 million units have been sold worldwide, of which 1.2 million units have been commercialise in Europe. The fifth generation of the Toyota RAV4 will be presented on March 28 at the New York Hall, so soon we will be back with all the details.
