Toyota presents at the New York Auto Salon the new generation of the RAV4, which arrives with a totally renewed look and much more attractive and sharp than its predecessor.
Toyota has presented at the New York Auto Salon the new generation of the RAV4, which arrives with a totally renewed look, much more attractive and sharper than its predecessor, and with a hybrid propulsion system that promises better performance and great efficiency. The new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which leads the sales of the Japanese brand in the United States, arrives full of life, daring and threatening, to seduce the public in the increasingly competitive segment of medium-sized crossovers.
Although it will also be available with a 2.5-liter thermal engine, the one that really interests us is the 'top of the range', a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid that uses the same two and a half liters unit linked to an electric motor by the usual ECVT transmission. the Japanese house (variable electronically controlled continuous transmission).
Toyota has not revealed the performance figures of the new THS II engine, consisting of an electric motor and a thermal four-cylinder, nor the consumption and emissions, although it is known that its efficiency is superior to the gasoline engine with a performance 41%
Once again, Toyota has implemented the TNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture) to build on it the new fifth generation RAV4, but with a lower and wider packaging. Developed by Toyota, the Vector Dynamic Torque system controls four-wheel drive with disconnection on the rear axle, and allows drivers to steer the vehicle safely on all types of surfaces.
The wheelbase is greater, as well as its wider front and rear tracks, which provides a stable and safe driving platform, suitable for driving conditions that we find off-piste. The front and rear wings, more restrained than in previous occasions, give the RAV4 greater ability to overcome obstacles and an aspect more consistent with that of a sport utility vehicle or SUV.
The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed that the chassis, in one piece, is 57% stiffer than the previous version. The RAV4 incorporates an optimized multi-link rear suspension, providing ideal cushioning for all types of driving and helps minimize noise inside the passenger compartment. The distance to the ground has been increased by several centimeters, which benefits his driving off the asphalt and his 'look' of sporty SUV, very similar and faithful to the FT-AC Concept that was presented at the last Hall of Los Angeles 2017.
XSE Hybrid, the sportiest RAV4
For those who prefer a more daring driving dynamics, the XSE Hybrid version offers a perfect fusion between sportiness and utility. The XSE version, only available with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, is a new level of finishes of the range designed to combine a higher quality interior finishes with a dynamic behavior on the road. Thanks to its sport suspension, more rigid than in the rest of the range, and its exterior details, such as the optional two-tone paint, the XSE offers the sporty touch that this SUV needed.
Accents in Piano Black on the grille, mirrors, skirts and pronounced rear diffuser give the RAV4 the unique sporty appeal of the XSE Hybrid version. Again only available in the hybrid model, the Beam LED headlights flank each side of the grille (in XLE and higher versions) to deliver a brighter and sharper light source, with an ideal focusing angle.
The relocated side mirrors are now positioned further down the door to increase forward visibility around the A-pillar. The lateral visibility increases thanks to the decrease of the blind spot and the enlarged redesign of the mirror, increasing the posterior visibility diagonally.
