BMW I1 2020: PRICES, Review AND PHOTOS
BMW has medium-term plans within the electric car sector. One of them is to put on the market what, they say, will be the urban utility par excellence, the BMW i1. It is still only a concept, a plan for the future, but it is very likely that in a few years it will become a reality.
BMW i1
BMW has already made it clear that part of their plans are focused on opening a line of electric cars within the brand. Not in vain, the German manufacturer has already registered all the names from i1 to i9. Does this mean that we are going to see a model among all these nomenclatures? It is not known, but what is certain is that some are already in the market (the i3 and the i8) and others are already underway. The i5 is already in an advanced stage of development, and plans to build a BMW i1 date back to 2010.
Since the first rumors emerged, there have also been numerous designs and concept cars of what could be the future BMW i5, which to this day we do not have a final design, not even a provisional one. What there is, as we say, is various concept cars, like the one based on the famous BMW Isetta, one of the smallest models in BMW's history.
There are also other concept cars designed from BMW itself. For example, the one made by the Senegalese engineer Amadou N'Diaye. This prototype would be a much more futuristic version of what you would expect in reality, and would be based on a three-wheeled car, one behind and two in front (you can see images of this prototype in the photo gallery at the end of the article) .
In fact, almost all that is known so far of the BMW i1 is that it will be a 100% electric utility, and that most likely it will reach the market by the end of 2020 or early 2021. Few more data have transpired so far, but we tell you everything we know in the next point.
BMW i1 - Technical sheet
We have advanced you that we still know very little about the characteristics of the BMW i1. What can be anticipated is that it will be a model fruit of the agreement between BMW and Toyota. Therefore, it can be assured that it will be a totally new model, which will represent a revolutionary line within the brand.
Most likely, the new BMW i1 will be developed on the same platform that will be used for the new Mini Rocketman. BMW has decided to do it on this new platform before on its own, since the production cost would skyrocket. Using the same platform for both models, companies share expenses and can develop a more efficient platform.
Apart from this and that it would be a 100% electric utility, nothing is known about its performance, its autonomy or its power. It is expected to be an agile and urban vehicle, but without ruling out a more familiar side. Some sectors of the press suggest that it could be a 2-seater model, although we believe that it will be a 4-seat, or a 2 + 2. In any case, it is no longer about personal impressions, especially seeing that will share platform with the Mini.
BMW i1 - Prices
At the moment the BMW i1 is just a project and therefore it is too early to talk about prices. BMW has already stated that they want it to be an economic vehicle, with a great value for money. In this sense, the agreement with Toyota to use the same platform becomes very important, which will allow to save costs and launch the model at a competitive price.
Currently BMW has two models within the range "i" or electric range. It is the BMW i3, which has a price between 37,400 and 42,000 euros, and the BMW i8, whose price is 141,800 euros. Normally, the price of the BMW i1 would be significantly lower than that of the i3.
