NEW ''2017 DeLorean'' DMC-12 COMING BACK FROM THE FUTURE
The icon of the 80s is back in America's roads.
As a song that became popular after the death of the singer, in 1981-'82 car DeLorean DMC-12 sports has become a cultural phenomenon after releasing production for his role in the back of the 1985 in the future. But next year, you will be able to buy a 2017 DeLorean new to satisfy your deepest fantasies Marty McFly.
The DeLorean Motor Co., the Texas company that owns all of the parts and tooling manufacturer of late origin, will begin selling new 2017 DMC-12 with the recent adoption of a law authorizing the sale of not less than 325 replicas of historical cars per year.
DeLorean provides for the sale on that number of DMC-12 on a five-year production cycle. The price will not be set before the end of this year, but it will be close to $ 100,000, reports the DeLorean vice president James Espy. Although the law made the production and sale of legal cars, Congress gave the federal agencies involved a year to draft relevant regulations.
Approximately 9,200 DMC-12 were built between 1981 and 1982, and about 6,500 are believed to exist today, according to the DeLorean Museum.
Espey said he thinks it will take longer than that, but this 2017 DeLorean will be ready in a year to start selling cars once the government gets its act.
2017 DMC-12 will feature a new V6 engine that makes 350 horsepower and 370. The original V6 Peugeot-Renault-Volvo-sourced produce a meager 130 horsepower, in comparison.
A candidate to supply the engine is General Motors, but DeLorean is in talks with another potential engine provider too. The company expects to finalize the source engine this spring, according Espey.
The new 2017 DeLoreans will be updated with larger wheels and tires, brakes and modern amenities such as heated seats, GPS navigation and Bluetooth phone. "But the external form remains practically unchanged," promised Espey.
The elegant coupe is unique, thanks to its bodyshell made of stainless steel and its gullwing doors, so his fans should be pleased. And more power can only help.
What is the 2017 DeLorean speed will be able to accelerate to 88 mph while under fire from Libyan terrorists? "We are still waiting for news of Doc Brown about it," Espey said.
