For years, Mazda has struggled to cope with the popularity of SUVs. Under the former parent company Ford, the small Japanese manufacturer was at least able to join the party in the 1990s and early 2000s, but did so with models designed jointly as the Navajos and the Tribute . At least four cylinder SKYACTIV sounded a little sport, and automatic six-speed transmission sharp mind (no manual is offered) was responsive when pushed, especially in Sport mode.

But there is a catch
After a few hours behind the wheel, we were very impressed with the 2016 Mazda CX-3. It is still, attractive car fun to drive sophisticated Mazda. But then we realized something: Mazda already sells a great little sedan. He called the Mazda3. As we thought more about the new CX-3, we struggled to see the tangible benefits of walking until crossover, other than the availability of all-wheel drive.

Estimates of fuel consumption of the CX-3 29/35 mpg city / highway also fall short of 30/40 mpg rating of the three with the same powertrain. To top it all, the CX-3 should command a slight price premium over a Mazda3 sedan, Mazda predict with a starting price in the low $ 20,000s - before you add all-wheel drive and other options.
