After a long wait, BMW finally reveals the details of its new Roadster. Presented in Los Angeles alongside the restyled version of the coupe, this new sporting declination wins both power and autonomy.
From an aesthetic point of view, this declination Roadster is largely inspired by the coupe whose renewed version also takes its first steps at the Los Angeles Motor Show.Main change: the appearance of a soft roof that opens and closes in less than 16 seconds at a speed of 50 km / h.
Sharing the same plug-in hybrid engine as the Coupé, this i8 Roadster combines a 231 horsepower and 320 Nm 3-cylinder petrol engine with an electric horsepower of 12 horsepower, from 131 horses on the previous version to 143 horsepower and 250 Nmon this new generation. In total, the total power now reaches 374 horses against 362 for the previous system.
A bit less nervous than the coupe, this version Roadster cuts the 0 to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds (4.4 s for the coupe).
Battery 11.6 kWh
Another change announced and confirmed during the presentation of the two models in Los Angeles: the increase in capacity of the battery pack that goes from 7.1 to 11.6 kWh thanks to new cells in 34 Ah. with a theoretical autonomy now increased to 53 km for the Roadster and 55 km for the coupe against only thirty for the previous version. On the charging part, no change announced with a system that remains limited to 3.6 kW of power, a full charge in about 3 hours.
In terms of consumption, increasing the size of the battery allows the manufacturer to lower its approval figures. While the previous version was given for 2.5 l / 100 km, the Coupe version now announces 1.9 l / 100 km and the Roadster 2.1 l / 100 km.
Release Date
If the French release schedule of its new i8 has not been officially announced, their marketing is expected in 2018. Price side, no ads either but it should be quite close to the previous model which began at around 140,000 euros in France.
