Geneva 2018: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2019, with more power, savings and autonomy
The hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in, presented at the Geneva Motor Show, has a new 2.4-liter gasoline engine and two improved electric motors.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SUV has been upgraded with a more powerful engine and improved fuel economy. The 2019 version of the Outlander, exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show 2018, has been equipped with a 2.4-liter Atkinson gasoline engine that replaces the current 2.0-liter unit.
The Japanese manufacturer says that this new four-cylinder engine offers greater torque, a more fluid and smooth operation, in addition to reducing emissions. The electric powertrain of the plug-in hybrid Outlander, which has two electric motors, has also been updated. It offers 10% more power and torque, while the 13.8 kWh battery is now 15% larger to generate more power. Total electric autonomy should be around 56 km.
Although the specifications have not yet been confirmed, the Outlander is expected to decrease to 41 g / km of CO2 emitted according to the European NEDC cycle and improve consumption by 2 l / 100km, while also reducing the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h some tenths of seconds. The new SUV retains the versions of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while adding the new Sport and Snow modes. The Sport sharpens the responses of the powertrain and the Snow mode improves the traction of the vehicle on surfaces of limited adhesion.
Changes in design and interior
Visual changes to the Outlander include new daytime LED lights, a more prominent front grille, new 18-inch wheels and a modified rear spoiler. Mitsubishi also improved the leather of the front seats, updated the dashboard with a new instrument panel and now the rear passengers also have their own air conditioning outlets. The new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will arrive in Europe at the beginning of autumn. The dates for the United States have not yet been confirmed.
