Must See '' 2019 BMW i5 '' Review, Photo's, Features
BMW continues with its commitment to create a more and more complete range of electric vehicles. To the well-known i3 and i8, the Bavarian firm is studying the possibility of manufacturing a new model with sedan or saloon body, which would be renamed i5. Of course, the new model is still in the study phase and for now there is nothing confirmed since the official presentation would still be missing - it could be in 2018 - and its commercialisation - around 2019-.
Initially, BMW wanted the i5 to be a model based on the i3, but with more size and sportiness. However, in the end BMW is so excited about this model that it has decided to have its own character. That is why it has evolved into forms of saloon, a type of bodywork in which although it has fewer and fewer followers, BMW still thinks that it will still have a big pull in the next decade.
Another feature that will have the next i5 is that BMW wants to have a more adjusted cost development. That is why he chose to keep the central pillar, in front of the rest of his electric ones that does not take him.
For this reason, also the next i5 would not be made at 100% carbon. While it is true that it would have this material, it should also be noted that the German brand has decided not to bet 100% on carbon in the structure.
As for the shapes of the body, everything points to it being a saloon with coupe design and very sharp roof drop. A design that will not fully influence the livability, since BMW handles quite spacious interior dimensions.
This is because the wheelbase can be quite long - superior to that of a Series 3- since the electric motor occupies less space than a conventional motor. Hence, the rear and front overhangs are very small, leaving as much space as possible inside the passenger compartment and improving the interior space of the mentioned Series 3.
As for the mechanical variants that incorporate there will be several. There is talk of a pure electric that would be around 200 hp and would exceed 400 kilometers and also a plug-in hybrid that would already exceed 400 hp and would add to the electric motor another three or four cylinder gasoline. As a novelty, in addition, this electric battery could be charged by induction.
And finally, the price ... The new i5 could be on sale in 2019 for about 40,000 euros, as a starting point, a really interesting price since we are talking about a sports sedan, low emissions and greater autonomy.
This possible electric i5 would be based on the prototype presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show and from which you can see some images here. This is the concept car BMW i Vision Dynamics. It is characterized by having four doors and an electric propulsion system that allows it to achieve great benefits: from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds and a maximum speed of 200 km / h.
However, the most striking is not so much the number of benefits but rather their autonomy. In this sense, this BMW i Vision Dynamics allows a single load to travel up to 600 kilometers.
In turn, this possible model is a bet more for electrification within BMW. In particular, the Bavarian firm says it will have 25 electrified models - 12 of them purely electric - in 2025. This BMW i5 would be one of the 12 purely electric.
